Feeder Road Access Projects

Access to essential services should not be determined by the condition of a road. In many remote communities on Tanna, families rely on steep feeder roads to reach clinics, schools, markets and essential transport routes. When these roads become unsafe or difficult to pass, especially after heavy rain or natural disasters, already isolated communities can be cut off from the support they need.

PBG Foundation is supporting the Tanna Feeder Roads Access Project to help improve practical access for remote rural communities. The project focuses on improving key feeder-road sections used by local families to reach health services, education, produce markets and other essential community services.

For vulnerable groups, including children, women, elderly villagers, people with disability and low-income households, safer and more reliable access can make a meaningful difference. It can help children get to school, families reach medical care, farmers move produce to market, and communities remain connected during times of hardship.

This project is being delivered as a restricted benevolent relief initiative, with local implementation, controls, safeguarding requirements, reporting and acquittal processes in place. Its purpose is not road building for its own sake, but the relief of hardship, isolation and disadvantage by improving access to the services and opportunities remote communities depend on.

By improving feeder-road access in Tanna, PBG Foundation aims to help reduce isolation, strengthen community resilience, and ensure that distance and difficult terrain do not prevent families from reaching basic services and support.
