Child & Family Safeguarding Program
- Status: Program in Development
- Type: Standard
In the chaos of disasters or severe hardship, children are often the most vulnerable. Family separations can occur, and risks of neglect or exploitation rise sharply. Our Child & Family Safeguarding Program will activate when a crisis threatens the wellbeing of children. This program provides immediate safe shelter for children who have been displaced or separated from caregivers, ensuring they have a secure, caring environment while longer-term solutions are arranged. We work urgently to reunite children with their families whenever possible, coordinating with local authorities and using community networks to locate relatives. For those who cannot return to family quickly, we ensure they receive continuous care, nutritious food, medical attention, and psychosocial support to help them cope with trauma. Beyond emergency care, the program establishes protective measures: training community members in child protection standards, setting up child-friendly spaces in evacuation centres, and creating reporting mechanisms so any risks or instances of abuse can be swiftly addressed. Our protocols will meet international child protection standards, because every child deserves to feel safe and protected, especially during the most turbulent times of their life. Through this program, we strive to restore stability and security for children so they can begin to heal and regain a sense of normalcy.
