Sanctuary & Soul Trauma & Mental Health Support
- Status: Program in Development
- Type: Standard
Long after a disaster ends, emotional and psychological wounds can linger, especially for children and families who’ve endured trauma. Sanctuary & Soul will be our flagship mental health initiative to help people heal inside. Drawing on the Pacific’s deep cultural connection to nature and community, this program will offer animal-assisted and equine therapy to survivors of trauma, including at-risk youth and first responders. In these guided sessions, a calm environment with horses and trained therapy animals will help individuals rebuild trust, confidence, and a sense of safety. This is not just “playing with animals”, it’s a structured, evidence-based intervention proven to reduce post-traumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. By creating a nurturing sanctuary space, we aim to help survivors process their experiences, restore their spirits, and reconnect with hope. In addition to therapy sessions, Sanctuary & Soul will incorporate community counselling, peer support groups for youth, and traditional cultural practices of healing. Our goal is to address the invisible scars of disaster and hardship, ensuring that mental health is not overlooked in recovery. By tending to the soul of a community: its people’s emotional well-being, we contribute to true, holistic healing.
